3. Spreading knowledge and raising awareness

(1) Seminars and events
Seminars
	■ITU-AJ coordinates an annual practical seminar focussing on training experts for international conferences and business held by Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications．Seminars on specific themes are held as needed.

Workshops and Lectures
■ITU-AJ has four categories of workshops that focus on general ITU issues, telecommunication standardization (ITU-T), radiocommunication (ITU-R), and digital opprtunities. In total, the ITU-AJ holds four workshops or lectures each month. All are open to the public and include discussion and the exchange of information on the specific theme with the aim of sharing ideas on improving communications.

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day
■World Telecommunication and Information Society Day was established to commemorate both the foundation on 17 May 1865 of the International Telegraph Union, which was the predecessor of the ITU, and the World Summit on the Information Society held in 2003 and 2005. Every year, ITU-AJ holds a ceremony to celebrate this anniversary.

International Cooperation Day
	■In Japan, International Cooperation Day is celebrated on 6 October every year. As part of the commemorations, the International Cooperation Forum on Telecommunications and Broadcasting is jointly held by ITU-AJ and the Association of the International Cooperation Forum on Telecommunications and Broadcasting. photo: International Cooperation Forum -Panel discussion

ITU Club
	■Through monthly gatherings of its ITU Club, ITU-AJ provides opportunities for people interested in ITU activities to informally meet together, and to listen to brief presentations offered by invited speakers on topics in the domestic or foreign telecommunication and broadcasting fields. photo: ITU Club

(2) ITU-AJ Awards and International Cooperation Awards
	■On World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, ITU-AJ Awards are given to those who have made a major contribution to ITU-related activities. photo: World Telecommunication Day ■On International Cooperation Day, ITU-AJ presents International Cooperation Awards to people who have made remarkable contributions in the field of telecommunications and broadcasting for developing countries.
