\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The seventeenth of May marks World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD)\u00a0<\/em>of International \u00a0Telecommunication Union (ITU).\u00a0<\/em>This day celebrates the anniversary of the founding of the ITU and the signing of the first International Telegraph Convention in 1865.<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In commemoration of this, we are holding a celebration on 17 May.\u00a0 This celebration will draw attention to ITU related activities in Japan and to the Declaration of Principles\/the Plan of Action of World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
\n<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The event will commence with an award ceremony during which the MIC Minister’s Award and also ITU-AJ awards will be presented in recognition of contributions to ITU-R, ITU-T and ITU-D as well as international cooperation.\u00a0 This ceremony will be followed by a one hour lecture by Ph.D. Noboru Noguchi, Vice-Dean, Professor, Research Faculty of Agriculture, Hokkaido University.<\/em><\/span>
